The Rosso DOC grand celebration marked a momentous gathering to revel in the success of this exceptional wine, within the enchanting walls of the medieval fortress in the renowned Tuscan village. The event, organized by the Consortium, was a remarkable success, showcasing the increasing popularity of this wine.

In recent years, the DOC Rosso di Montalcino has experienced significant growth, both in terms of quality and in its appeal to an ever-expanding group of admirers. Traditionally considered a younger sibling of the renowned Brunello di Montalcino, and often fondly referred to as ‘Baby Brunello’, it has embarked on a journey of stylistic transformation. An evolution that has allowed it to establish its own unique identity and prestige, setting it apart as a captivating story of its own.

Rosso di Montalcino and its stylistic transformation

The appellation producers have long pursued an evolution for this wine, with great dedication and resolute determination, resulting in its triumphant emergence from the imposing shadow of its illustrious sibling. Though the blood bond between the two remains strong, the Rosso now confidently commands its own realm, showcasing wines that are elegant, fresh, dynamic, and highly accessible. With all the true essence of Sangiovese and the distinct terroir characteristics, yet this wine has a unique and captivating identity of its own.

Whether interpreted as a wine to be enjoyed immediately or for long ageing, and often possessing both qualities simultaneously, Rosso di Montalcino offers a unique tale of excellence. Moreover, it stands out for its unmatched quality-to-price ratio, making it a cherished option for wine enthusiasts.

With a newfound appreciation for a product of ancient tradition, the Consorzio embarked on a series of communication initiatives, culminating in the successful inaugural edition of RED Montalcino last year. The event was staged once more on 15th July, celebrating the enduring charm of such remarkable wine.

The celebration of a new identity

The grand celebration took place to honor the escalating triumph of a wine with a long tradition of exceptional quality. Seventy esteemed producers gathered for the sold-out event held in the majestic Fortezza – the iconic symbol of Montalcino, one of Tuscany’s most beloved and renowned villages. The occasion marked a momentous gathering to revel in the success of this remarkable wine.

The wines showcased at the event undoubtedly boasted a remarkable average quality, even as the summer heat had a negative impact on the tastings. Unfortunately, the high temperature compromised the wines’ composure and balance, making it a significant detail, particularly for an audience less experienced and knowledgeable in wine appreciation, who might not fully grasp such details.

As a premium Sangiovese, Rosso di Montalcono should never be mistaken for a simple wine meant for casual sipping on a hot summer night. Esteemed and well-loved labels such as Baricci, Albatreti, Talenti, Castello Tricerchi, and Fattoria del Pino, among others (although not all present at the event), embody the contemporary essence that the Consortium tirelessly promotes.

These esteemed wineries have long carried the vibrant and alternative soul of Montalcino, delighting the senses with their elegant and easy-going nature, accompanied by a fine pleasantness that captivates both connoisseurs and novices from the very first sip.

Rosso di Montalcino has held an increasing prominent role in its tale, and the great news is that this new fashion icon of style is finally receiving the spotlight it deserves, showcasing its charm and exquisite beauty on the catwalk of wine appreciation. The evening concluded with much merriment, thanks to the collective tasting counter, gastronomic stands offering local, vegan, and fusion cuisine, refreshing cocktails, and plenty of great music to complement the delightful experience.
