What unites them is the unfolding Revolution among a good number of winemakers.

Extraordinary things do happen when visionary winemakers in Italy convene, and Albugnano and Montespertoli are no exceptions. It is akin to Wine Révolution where innovation knows no bounds. When you are blessed with excellence, as seen in Nebbiolo and Sangiovese grape varieties, settling for anything less than exceptional is simply not an option. Winning at the wine game requires more than just having the right cards; it demands strategic play and the strength of unity.

Albugnano, nestled in Alto Monferrato, and Montespertoli, gracing the hills around Florence, though geographically apart, share a centuries-old tradition in winemaking. Fairly recetly they have both embarked on a virtuous journey, driven by a shared intuition.

Albugnano 549 – a New Deal in Monferrato

Albugnano led the way in 2017 with a spontaneous alliance of winemakers under the symbol 549. Numbers hold a mystical allure for some, and Albugnano’s choice of 549 is rich with meaning, surely an auspicious sign. A hidden 99 adds to the mystique, solidifying the project’s fortunate inception.

This unconventional move was initially met with skepticism, but history shows that disruptive ideas often lead to tangible change. On the the fifth of April, nine producers founded a new association in Albugnano, which is precisely at 549 meters above sea level.

Their motto? “A wine that starts from the top and aims even higher.” Member wineries chose to craft their wine solely from Nebbiolo, emphasizing the elegance and recognizability of this key grape variety. With 14 members now, their initial goal of raising the quality benchmark has undeniably been met.

The future they glimpsed at the beginning of this adventure is now an increasingly present reality, destined to endure.

Montespertoli Winegrowers – a New Association in Tuscany

Similarly, Montespertoli boasts 17 Winegrowers, each with a unique tale contributing to one overarching narrative: the sustainable excellence of their terroir captured in a glass. It all began with a shared vision among younger producers around a convivial bottle of Tuscan wine. This idea culminated in the establishment of the Montespertoli Winegrowers Association in 2022.

Their covenant is clear: direct grape cultivation, sustainable agricultural practices, respect for raw materials, wines that authentically express their origins, collaboration within the agricultural community, environmental sustainability, and active engagement outside of Montespertoli. The result? Good, healthy, and sustainable wine that honors the ecosystem.

Montespertoli places a premium on biodiversity, maintaining the perfect balance between vineyards, olive groves, woodlands, crop fields, and pastures. painting Tuscany’s landscape with evocative charm.

Unlike Albugnano 549, which champions a single grape variety, Montespertoli celebrates diversity by selecting the finest expression of quality from each estate. They focu on crafting wines that are both contemporary and true to their terroir, with pure Sangiovese interpretations holding a special place in terms of finesse. While Montespertoli wines already boast adequate quality, the association aspires to greater heights, united by a shared commitment to excellence.
